Ben Breedlove: a Christmas e-Tsunami

Was going to blog about my trip to Assisi, but wasn't meant to be. Another young life cut short - he died on Christmas Day 2011. How could death rob Ben Breedlove after 18 short years?!

No, but it wasn't robbery! Rather a gift, a Christmas gift, in the form of an e-tsunami is shaking the  world. Isn't death just a beginning for Ben and for us?

As a young child, he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that would affect and eventually claim his life.

His illness was difficult. Not being able to play sports, visits to the hospital, medication, and surgeries were tough, very tough. But none of this took love and enthusiasm for life.
He loved to wakeboard, shoot, and play Call of Duty. But what most set him apart was his genius on the internet. His two YouTube channels went viral. OurAdvice4You reached over 60,000 subscribers in barely over a year, and BreedloveTV over 20,000 in under a year.

His illness

As he himself says, he cheated death 3 times and lived life to the full with his family, friends, and fans. He accepted his illness and even made it work to his advantage, allowing him to help thousands of others.

On Christmas night, however, the moment had come. I can't put it better than his parents in his obituary:
On Christmas night, our son, Ben Breedlove received a gift greater than any we could have given him. He stood in the presence of his Lord and Savior and felt the peace that surpasses all understanding.
We know the Lord used the amazing life of our precious son to reach a weary world on Christmas night, just as He did over 2000 years ago with his own Son.

While the pain of losing Ben will never be far, his life is serving a greater purpose. You were always full of surprises, Ben, and this is the best one yet! "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord."
And he's got a lot to teach us - an ordinary guy living life in an extraordinary way!
